Our Adoption Process

Adopting a pet during Covid-19

We are committed to following government guidelines to keep our people, pets and customers safe, so we’ve adapted our adoption process to enable us to continue rehoming pets.

Our viewing days are unfortunately suspended for now but when safe to do so we will resume them and welcome you back to the centre.

Catchment Area

Depending on what animal you are looking to adopt and the type of home visit you require we can rehome in up to a 40 mile radius of the centre in Sidlesham.

If your not sure you fall within the catchment are please feel free to email info@crrc.co.uk before applying.

Stage 1

Find the Right Pet

Take a look at our pets that currently are looking for a home. You can read a little description of what kind of home each animal is looking for.

Information & Advice

If you are unsure what kind of pet that suits your family the best, read our guide to finding the right pet.

Stage 2

Apply

When you have found an animal you think would match you well, press apply. We ask you to keep an open mind, as the animal care staff sometimes find another animal that would suit you even better. They might therefore occasionally suggest a different animal than you originally applied for. For us, the most important thing is to ensure you and your animal will live happily ever after.

The animal care staff will review the application on a first-come, first-served basis.

Stage 3

Home Visit

We will then contact you regarding arranging a virtual home visit. If you already know you want to adopt an animal from us but are waiting for the right animal to come up on the website, we can also arrange the virtual home visit before you apply for an animal. For the home visit we will request 4-5 photos or a video. For rabbits and guinea pigs where an accommodation is needed, we can also arrange the home visit after you meet the pet as we are aware of the price of the accommodation.

Stage 4

Meet the Pet

After your home visit you can contact us to make an appointment to meet your pet.

Consider Our Golden Oldies

Older cats can make great companions and often love to spend their time at home on a warm lap. If you are interested in a Golden Oldie or a Foster Care animal please read more by clicking below.

Adoption Policies

Cat Process

You will be able to spend some time with the cat at the centre to see if you are right for each other. If you and the cat are happy, you can take it home the same day.

Rabbit Process

We only adopt rabbits in pairs or to be paired with one of yours. If your home visit is already approved and you wish to adopt a pair you can come to the centre and meet them and take them home the same day if you are each other’s perfect match.

Bonding
If you are adopting one rabbit it will have to be bonded with your own rabbit. You can either come and meet your new rabbit at the centre and reserve it and bring your own rabbit another day or you can bring your own rabbit on the day for bonding straight away. The bonding will take between 1 and 3 weeks at the centre.

Guinea Pig Process

We only adopt guinea pigs in pairs or to be paired with one of yours. If your home visit is already approved and you wish to adopt a pair you can come to the centre and meet them and take them home the same day if you are each other’s perfect match.

Bonding
If you are adopting one guinea pig it will have to be bonded with your own guinea pig. You can either come and meet your new guinea pig at the centre and reserve it and bring your own guinea pig another day or you can bring your own guinea pig on the day for bonding straight away. If you have a female pig to be bonded with another female or neutered male it will often only take 1h and you can take them both home if it works well. If you have a male to be bonded with another male it will normally take 5 to 10 days at the centre.

How much does it cost?

We ask you to pay an adoption fee towards the cost of your pet’s care during their stay with us. The fees are typically less than half of what it costs the centre, so any further donation is much appreciated. The fee depends on the type of pet and if bonding is needed.
